The 2017 Overseas Chinese youth “China Roots Trip” Spring Camp sponsored by Overseas Chinese affairs office of the State Council and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government begun on April 20 in Shanghai. The theme of the 10-day spring camp is ‘the Belt and Road Initiatives’. Shanghai Open University (SOU), as a Chinese Language Education base and one of the campsites, welcomed 33 Myanmar teachers and students from CPEC. This is the first Spring Camp held by SOU after the establishment of the Overseas Chinese College of Shanghai.
On the morning of March 8, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal Government and Shanghai Open University (SOU) signed a cooperation agreement regarding the establishment of the Overseas Chinese College of Shanghai (OCCS). The unveiling ceremony was held then.
In order to promote global cooperation between universities, other institutions and interested scholars through academic exchange and to enhance the quality of teaching and research in the field of open and distance learning, Shanghai Open University (SOU) has successfully conducted the International Visiting Scholar Program each Spring and Autumn since 2013, with participation by the member universities and institutes of African Council for Distance Education (ACDE), Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), as well as other universities and institutes that currently provide or are developing open and distance education all over the world. Up to now, SOU has received 8 groups of visiting scholars from 29 different countries, totally 66 person times.
The Institute of International Exchange of Shanghai Open University (SOU) is holding the Immersion Hub – 2017 Short Term International Student Program between June 11 – June 23, 2017. The Program provides 30 full scholarships, now the application is open.
The 11 International Visiting Scholars from 11 countries, including UK, Spain, Zambia, Nigeria, USA, Indonesia, Russia, Nepal, South Africa, Pakistan and South Korea, have successfully completed their research in Shanghai Open University from October 31st to November 11th, 2016. During the program, the scholars have exchanged ideas and shared the best practice with 3 functional departments and 4 colleges of SOU. They also paid the on-site visit to 3 branch schools including Yangpu Branch School, Qingpu Branch School and Xuhui Branch School. They also took part in the 2 seminars on Education for Disabled People, and The Quality Assurance of ODL, during which, they had a full discussion with faculties and students from SOU. Moreover, the International Visiting Scholars also participated in the International Conference on Leadership and Innovation for the Future in Open and Distance Learning, and some of the scholars also made presentations and chaired the parallel session of the conference.
On Nov6-7, Leadership and Innovation for the Future in Open and Distance Learning International Conference has been successfully held at Shanghai Open University. The conference is co-hosted by SOU (the UNESCO Unitwin Network in Distance and Open Learning) and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO. The conference theme is ‘Leadership and Innovation for the Future’, which attracts more than 200 well-known scholars from 19 different countries to attend the conference.
On the morning of November 8th, University Secretary Keith Zimmerman, Director of the Business Development Unit Ian Howell, and Head of China Affairs Guangyu Freear of the Open University of UK visited SOU. SOU President Yuan Wen, Vice President Zhang Jin, representatives of the President Office, Academic Affairs Department, Teachers’ Development Center and other related departments participated the meeting.
On the morning of Nov. 8th, the Acting President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University Prof. Somchin Suntavarak, and the Vice President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University Prof. Somporn Puttapithakporn, visited the SOU. SOU Secretary of the Party Committee Cheng Danhong received the guests.
On the morning of Nov. 5, James Cooney, the Vice President of Colorado State University, led a delegation to visit SOU. SOU President Yuan Wen and the Vice President Zhang Jin met with the guests.
Shanghai Open University (SOU) International Visiting Scholar Program 2016 Autumn Session has started on October 31st has started. 11 scholars from 11 countries will participate in the two-week program this time, and this is the 8th session of SOU International Visiting Scholar Program since 2013.
