The Delegation of Korean Educational & Cultural Center and Nagasaki International University Visits Shanghai Open University

A delegation of Korean Educational and Cultural Center (KECC) and Nagasaki International University (NIU) came to visit Shanghai Open University (SOU) in the morning of April 20. Members of the delegation also include PIAO Sihuan, Chairman of KEEC, ZHAO Guihao, General Manager of KEEC, YAN Jingxie, Consultant of KEEC, LIN Shengqi, Director of Business Support Department of KECC, LIN Jian, Director of International Exchange and International Student Center of NIU.

The delegation visited the campus environment and the Digital Laboratory for Open Education at first to get to know the international student program of SOU and have a better understanding of the digital education resources and the application of information technology on education at SOU.

After that, GU Xiaomin, Vice President of SOU met with the delegation, staff from the Institute of International Exchange also attended the meeting.

GU Xiaomin briefly introduced the development history, the characteristics and the current stage of development of SOU, and shared the main international exchange activities of SOU.

General Manager ZHAO Guihao introduced KEEC and proposed the ideas of collaboration between KEEC and SOU in providing education for international students major in tourism and business. Later, Director CHEN Jian introduced NIU and its collaborations with other Chinese universities in the hope of establishing a cooperative relationship with SOU in the areas of Japanese language learning, international tourism, and aging care.

Then, the two sides had further discussion on the possibilities of cooperation, and exchanged ideas of the cooperation plan including curriculum design, course arrangements and teaching requirements. In the end, both sides reached a preliminary intent on cooperation.

A delegation of RMIT University, led by David McElgunn, Deputy Dean of VE Programs of RMIT, came to visit Shanghai Open University (SOU) in the afternoon of April 14. Members of the delegation also include Anthony Graham, Manager of Industry Engagement and Partnerships of RMIT, Greg McCullough, CEO of Dynamic Learning Services Co., Alan Lee, CEO of Sino-Australia Health Education Group, and Henson Qian, Project Manager of Shineville Education.

2016 Spring SOU International Visting Scholar Program Is Now Open For Application

Shanghai Open University (SOU) as approved by Chinese Ministry of Education is a higher education institute which is providing distance open education to adults with support of modern information and communication technologies. It has provided degree education for 350,000 graduates since its establishment in 1960.

In order to promote cooperation between open universities through academic exchange and to enhance the quality of teaching and research in the field of open and distance learning, SOU has successfully conducted the International Visiting Scholar Program since 2013, participated by the member universities and institutes of African Council for Distance Education (ACDE), Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), as well as other universities and institutes in open and distance education all over the world.

International Conference on the Capacity Building of Open Universities Successfully Held at SOU

On the afternoon of Nov.4th 2015, the International Conference with the theme “The Capacity Building of Open Universities in the Globalization Era” was successfully held at the main campus of SOU. The conference was co-organized by Shanghai Open University and UNESCO UNITWIN Network in Distance and Open Learning. More than 200 participants from 13 countries of Europe, Asia, and Africa attended the conference.

Chairman of Norwegian Chinese Chamber of Commerce Visits IIE

On the morning of Oct 30th, Ms. Elise Chen, Chairman of the Norwegian Chinese Chamber of Commerce Elise Chen, visited the Institute of International Exchange (IIE) to discuss cooperation possibilities.

Prof. Liu Wenfu, Dean of the IIE, introduced current exchange and cooperation programs and future development plan of IIE. After exchanges and discussions, the two sides reached a consensus on cooperation in hospitality programs. Dean Liu hoped that achievements sharing, capacity building by cooperation between education institutes and enterprises can be reached through the joint efforts.

Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government visits SOU

On the afternoon of Oct.10th, Cai Jianguo, the deputy director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (OCAO) of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, and his colleagues visited Shanghai Open University (SOU) to research and guide overseas Chinese affairs related work at SOU. Gu Xiaomin, the Vice President of SOU, welcomed the group and exchanged views on overseas Chinese affairs. Dean of the Institute of International Exchange and related staff participated the meeting.
