The 10 International Visiting Scholars from 9 countries, including one self-supporting scholar from South Africa have successfully completed their research activities in Shanghai Open University ( SOU) from May 15th to May 26th, 2017. There are 4 scholars from the Belt & Road countries, which are Malaysia, Philippines, Russia and Thailand, and 4 scholars from African countries.
In the passing two weeks, the International Visiting Scholars have participated in 6 meetings, 4 seminars with the Research & Development Department, Teaching Affairs Office, Information & Engineering Center and Course Resource Center carefully arranged by the Institute of International Exchange in SOU. Each of the scholars has also made their presentations and shared their views upon Open & Distance Learning in the different seminars. Three of the four seminars have been live broadcasted with the support of Information & Engineering Center. The seminar links have been sent through Wechat to most of the faculty and branch schools in SOU schooling system, and about one hundred teachers, administers have participated in the seminars either on site or online. Though, this is the first time SOU has tried broadcasting seminars of the International Visiting Scholars Program, a lot of positive responses and feedbacks have already been received. The International Visiting Scholars have also paid the on-site visit to 3 branch schools including Yangpu Branch School, Qingpu Branch School and Xuhui Branch School, and have made comprehensive exchanges with the students and teachers there.
On the closing ceremony, the International Visiting Scholars made comments and reflections on the program. They also expressed their gratitude to SOU and showed their intention to promote the cooperation between SOU and their home institutions.
Up to now, SOU has received 76 International Visiting Scholars with 9 groups and from 34 different countries.
