The Delegation From Korea National Open University Visited Shanghai Open University

On March 14th, the 9 delegates from Korea National Open University (KNOU), led by Professor Chung KwangSik——Dean of the Department of Computer Science at KNOU visited Shanghai Open University (SOU). Leaders and related staff from the Institute of International Exchange and the Information and Network Management Center of SOU participated in the meeting and exchanges.


The meeting was chaired by Dr. Weng Zhuhua, Dean of the Institute ofInternational Exchange. On behalf of SOU, she welcomed the delegation from KNOU and reviewed the long-term cooperation between the KNOU and SOU, and also introduced KNOU’s achievements in the fields of education digitization and the virtual learning platform development over the years. After that, Professor Chung KwangSik shared the latest progress made by the KNOU in the construction of virtual learning contents and platforms, pointing out that the virtual learning content and platform construction project is committed to providing interactive experiential learning to enhance learners’ engagement and to improve learning effectiveness. Professor Chung KwangSi also expressed his intention to cooperate with SOU to jointly establish an open online learning platform, sharing virtual learning contents, and further improve the learning efficiency and experience of students from both universities and other leaners in Open and Distance Learning.


In the afternoon, led by Dr. Xiao Jun, the director of SOU's Information and Network Management Center, the KNOU delegation visited SOU’s online learning platform, open learning platform, and OMO smart teaching space, experienced innovative teaching models such as the smart learning metaverse, and gave high praise to these innovative teaching practices.


This visit, as an extension of the outcomes of SOU’s International Visiting Scholar Program, not only deepened the consensus between the two universities on educational technology and innovative learning methods, but also explored the possibility of cooperation between the two sides in the development of virtual learning platforms, interactive learning content sharing, and other fields. This visit serves as a starting point for deepening cooperation and exchanges, and we look forward to incubating more research outcomes in the fields of open education, virtual learning platforms, and the resource development between China and South Korea.
