There is a gym with a few equipments on SOU campus that is open and free to international students. Two swimming pools are nearby, the Jiangwang Swiming Pool at Jiangwan Sports Center is 2 kilometers from SOU campus, the indoor swimming pool at Tongji University is also 2 kilometers away from SOU campus and costs 20 RMB/hour.
Taxi drivers in Shanghai are not allowed to take a tip. Consumer taxes are included in price tags on goods. Cafeterias and bars in all hotels and some restaurants and bars outside hotels may include a service charge of 10% to 15%. Tipping is not expected in most restaurants and hotels in China.
Compared to any large cosmopolitan city, Shanghai is an incredibly safe city to live in and study.
